Installing a new kernel

  • check boot section for a kernel - if it contains one, extract it
    • otherwise extract kernel from kernel section
  • backup kernel and boot section, remove kernel from boot section (if any)) and put the original kernel in kernel section. check that your device is still bootable
  • replace the kernel in kernel section with your own kernel
  • alternatively install your kernel in recovery section and boot your kernel using the recovery button
